Obituary

Almeda Mary Kathleen Bratcher (Fisher), passed from this life and was called to life eternal Saturday morning on December 31, 2022, after years of battling various health issues. Almeda was 72 years old. Almeda was born on December 13, 1950, to the late Alfonso Fisher, Sr and the late Alberta Fisher (Madden). Almeda had seven siblings: (Preceded in Death): Sisters: Alfreda Wiliams, Alice Coleman, and Alethea D. McKenzey and brother: Alvin Fisher. Remaining Siblings are brothers, Frank Fisher and Rev. Alfonso Fisher Jr. and one sister, Minister Alberts Griffin. Almeda leaves three brothers-in-laws: John T. Williams, Bruce McKenzey and Wendell Griffin and three sisters-in-law: Barbara Fisher, Gloria Fisher and Carla Fisher. Almeda leaves two children; Tarnya N. Anderson and Jerome Buchanan Jr. along with their spouse: Devalin D. Anderson, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Yvette Buchanan. Almeda "Nanny" was the proud grandmother to: Angels, Mariah A. Green-Adams, Braxton N. Adams, Chandler P. Adams and Malachi Buchanan as well as a proud great-grandmother to Quincy M. Thomas, Xena G. Hines and Eastynn D. Adams. Almeda has a large family including a host of great aunts, nieces and great nephews, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and many acquaintances. Almeda was christened at Edgewood United Methodist Church in Lutherville, MD. After converting to Baptist, she attended Simmons Memorial Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD., rededicated her life to Christ while attending Center Union Baptist Church and was baptized by Re/Uncle Horace Madden. But after sudden closure, Almeda became a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Randallstown, MD. On the Eastern shore, MD. Almeda organized and taught Vacation Bible School, at the church of Christ of Federalsburg, MD. When Mariah and Braxton were young, "Nanny" would often get her "Angels," and take them to church to sing church songs. Almeda would teach them so many songs, as Aunt Evelyn had taught her as a child. Mariah and Braxton would sing while Almeda played the tambourine. Everyone would clap and sing along- they enjoyed Mariah and Braxton so much! "Nanny" was very playful yet a disciplinarian—she would play "Monster" with her "Angels" as well as threaten to "Shake You Up," if they misbehaved. "Nanny" would later come to create endearing memories with her two other grandchildren, Chandler and Malachi. Almeda went to Carver Elementary School in Towson, MD and was a graduate of Mergenthlar Vocational Technical High School. She was co-captain of the Varsity Cheerleader squad. Almeda received her diploma and attended several colleges: Morgan State University, Chesapeake College and Wor-Wic Community College. Almeda earned certificates in I, II, II and IV level early childhood development along with receiving three certifications in law enforcement and criminal law studies. In 2013, Almeda left Baltimore MD and relocated to Savannah, Georgia, whereas even in retirement, became a property manager for the properties in which she rented. In June 2022, and in failing health, Almeda drove from Georgia back to Maryland with one purpose in mind: to be around her family/friends as her health become poor and she knew her time remaining with us, was nearing its end.
