Barry E. Mayes, of Red Lion, went from this earthly life to life eternal on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 8:30 am from WellSpan York Hospital at the age of 80. He was the best friend and loving husband to Donna S. (Roseberry) Mayes of Red Lion, to whom he married on October 18, 1969, celebrating 53 years together.
He was born in Red Lion on May 6, 1942, and was the son of the late Ernest Raub and Thelma Mae (Murdock) Mayes. Barry worked as a machinist at the former Osram Sylvania for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2004. He loved riding his motorcycle, flying model airplanes, archery and spending time with his family and friends. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal.
Besides his wife, Donna, he leaves his son, Russell N. Mayes and his wife Marissa of York. He was the loving grandfather of Neal Warner, Miranda Warner and Nevaeh Gantt, all of York, and great grandfather to Bradon, Makaley "Mak", Riley and Reese. He also has nieces and nephews, and he leaves his babies, Coralee and Mollymae (his Shitzu's). He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Clouser and Sandra Flinchbaugh.
Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Memorial Service to Honor and Praise Barry will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2 pm at the Leo Alliance Fire and Rescue #77 in Red Lion. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to the Wounded Warriors, in honor of his nephew Eric, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677.
