Bernice E. (Doll) Lighty, of Red Lion, passed from this life-to-Life Eternal on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 12:26 pm from ProMedica South, at the age of 85. She was the loving wife of Roy Allen Lighty, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, prior to his passing on May 8, 2019.
She was born in York, on September 22, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Milford J. and Ruth A. (Shelley) Doll. Bernice was the service manager at the former McCrory's in York where she worked for 19 years prior to her retirement. She was a life member of Bethlehem "Stonepile" United Methodist Church in Red Lion. She loved to shop and was known as a "professional shopper" and a member of the American Legion for more than 60 years. But most of all, her family was very important to her, and she loved spending time with them as much as possible.
Bernice and Roy have two sons, Timothy A. Lighty and his wife Wendy of Dallastown, and Robert A. Lighty and his wife Lori of Aspers, PA. She was the loving grandmother to Joshua and his wife Holly, Jared and his wife Amanda, Travis and his wife Ciara, Jessica Kinard and her husband Josh and Shelley, and the great grandmother of Ben, Alex, Alyssa, and Colton. Bernice leaves her sister Mildred Wilson and her husband Howard of Red Lion along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce E. Schaszberger and son-in-law Kenneth Schaszberger, both in 2018, her grandson Lee Allen Schaszberger, a niece that Bernice and Roy raised, Judy Moser in 2017, and her two sisters, Deanna Rudisill and Arlene Stern.
