Obituary

Betty E. (Ness) Daugherty, of Brogue, went to her eternal home surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 96. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Daugherty who died on May 28, 1971.

Betty was born on November 8, 1928, in Manchester Township, to the late John L. and Ida E. (Weisheit) Ness. A proud graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1946, Betty spent much of her early life working on the family farm. As a dedicated farmer's wife, her days were filled with hard work, leaving little time for other pursuits. In the 1970s, Betty discovered a passion for square dancing, which became a cherished pastime. She especially loved traveling to Lancaster to participate in other dance events and loved listening to old time music. Known for her warm smile, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor, she was a joy to be around and often expressed her gratitude for her family, who meant the world to her. Betty's faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She leaves her sons, Nevin E. Daugherty and wife, Belinda, Glen A. Daugherty and wife, Susan, and Dean R. Daugherty and wife, Judy, as well as her daughters, Lois M. Jordan and husband, Robert, Kay E. Waltermyer and husband, Jeff, all of Brogue, and Darlene L. Daugherty of Red Lion. She will be missed dearly by her 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She leaves her brother, Ervin Ness of Manchester, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth P. Daugherty in 2013, her grandson, Shawn M. Daugherty in 2012, her granddaughter, Monica J. Daugherty in 1985, her sister, Dolly Arndt, and her brothers, Ronald Ness, John Ness, and Bobby Ness.

A viewing for Betty will take place on Monday, January 13, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with her pastor, Chris Starr, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered in Betty's memory to her church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 48 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Brogue, PA 17309.
