Carey S. Green, Jr. of Red Lion died on Thursday, July 24, 2015 at 6:07 p.m. after a lengthy illness at Colonial Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 86. He is the husband of Barbara A. (Rowe) Green of Red Lion.
He was born in Red Lion on June 1, 1929 and was the son of the late Carey S., Sr. and Elsie R. (Stein) Green.
Carey was a longtime member (50 + years) of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Red Lion , American Legion of Red Lion Post #543 and a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He also served on the USS Forrestal.
He was a machinist at the Teledyne McKay in York.
Besides his wife Barbara, he is survived by 3 daughters, Diane L. Koller (David) of Felton, Karen S. Green off York and Joyce E. Berger (Guy) of Felton and a son, Philip C. Green (Brenda) of Dunellen, NJ, 7 grandchildren, Annette Charlton of Gettysburg, Jennifer Denton of England, Sylvia Berger and Quinn Berger both Felton, Ryan Green of Bel Air, MD, Nicole Green and Nina Green both of NJ; 3 great grandchildren, Bailey Charlton of Gettysburg, Arianna Denton and Evelyn Denton both of England; 2 brothers, John Green of York and Charles Green of Dallastown and 3 sisters, Nancy Weiler, Mary Goodwin and Ann Minnich all of York, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Vernon Koller on June 6, 2006.
Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 West Broadway, Red Lion, PA. There will be no viewing. Family and friends may extend their condolences on Monday, July 27th from 6-7 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion. A Memorial Service to honor and praise Carey will begin at 7 p.m. at the church with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to York County Veterans Honor Guard, 670 Hammond Road, York, PA 17406.
Carey and Barbara were married on April 12, 1958, celebrating 57 years of marriage. He was a HAM radio operator, K3IIB. He enjoyed square dancing at White Rose, an avid camper and his favorite song is Green Green Grass of Home by Johnny Cash.
