Carol L. (Handy) Asten, 63, entered into rest after a brief illness on Sunday December 9, 2012, at her residence. She was the wife of William P. "Bill" Asten, Sr., whom she married on August 7, 1971. She was born in Crisfield, Md., on September 4, 1949, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Cora M. (Handy) Somers. Carol worked at the Social Security Administration as an Administrative Secretary for 15 years. In addition to her husband, William of Stewartstown, she is survived by a son, Bill P. Asten, Jr., and wife, Brenda of Middle River, Md.; a daughter, Angela R. Vasko and husband, Brian of Eighty Four, Pa.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Ethel Tate and Katherine Asten, both of Baltimore, Md. Viewings will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. the service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David D. Tietje, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ Red Lion, officiating. Burial will be at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens in Maryland. She was a wonderful wife to Bill for 41 years and mother and grandmother. She was a very kind and loving person who always put her family first. Carol will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
