Cecile M. (Cantara) Downie, of York, entered into rest at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 75. She was the wife of Brian Downie whom she married on November 25, 1966, sharing 57 years together.

Cecile was born in Suncook, New Hampshire on March 25, 1949 to the late Roger and Pauline M. (Gagne) Cantara. She worked in numerous professions throughout her life, ranging from waitressing to caregiving, where she found her true passion. She was most devoted to caring for individuals with developmental disabilities, dedicating herself to improving their lives with compassion and love. Cecile spent her time studying the bible, spending time with her family, and was excellent at sewing. She loved her dogs, tidying and fixing up her home, and took pride in caring for her family who she loved dearly.

Besides her husband, Cecile leaves her sons, Christopher M. Downie and wife, Katherine of New York, Brian J. Downie and wife, Ericka of White Hall, Maryland, and Kirk L. Downie and wife, Theresa of York. She will be missed by her sister, Diane Page and husband, Joseph of York, as well as her brother, Larry Cantara of Snowshoe, Pennsylvania. Cecile leaves her eight grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Life's New Beginning, 1140 Edison Street, York, PA 17404. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements.
