Obituary

Dale A. Sprenkle, Jr., of Dallastown, entered into rest at UPMC Memorial on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the age of 76. He was the husband of Debra M. (Stine) Sprenkle, whom he married on November 3, 1973.

Born in Windsor on August 25, 1948 (the hottest day of the year, according to his mother), Dale was the son of the late Dale A. Sprenkle and Mamie (Kopp) Sprenkle. He graduated from Dallastown High School in 1966 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, earning a National Defense Service Medal for his service in the Vietnam War. He worked as manager of software development at York Graphics Services/TechBooks for three decades before joining Comcast in York.

Dale loved music and baseball. He enjoyed playing bass guitar in the gospel-bluegrass band, Destiny, and loved listening to music when he wasn't playing or composing himself. Like the rest of his family, Dale was a devoted Baltimore Orioles fan, but he was happy to watch anyone play ball.

Dale was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Red Lion, where he sang in the choir, taught children's sermons and Sunday School, and served as treasurer, consistory president, and on various committees over the years.

Through it all, Dale enjoyed finding the humor in everyday things with family and friends.

Besides his loving wife, Dale is survived by his daughters, Sara Sprenkle and husband, Frank Zappaterrini of Lexington, VA and Jessie Sprenkle of Germany, and grandson, Xander Zappaterrini. He leaves his sisters, Juanita Jones of York and Cinny Attig and husband, Ronnie of Felton, as well as his sisters-in-law, Nancy Sprenkle of Mount Wolf and Jane Amspacher and husband, Steve of Glen Rock, and his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his cat Oscar. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Charles Sprenkle.

A viewing for Dale will take place on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, beginning at 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will start at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephany Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered in Dale's memory to St. John's UCC, 161 N. Main Street, Red Lion, PA 17356.
