Debbie Louise Howard, of York, formerly of Red Lion, entered into rest at Kingston Court Nursing and Rehab on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born in York on December 20, 1949, to the late William R. and Jesslyn V. (Forwood) Howard.

Debbie was a 1967 graduate of Red Lion Senior High School. She earned her cosmetology license in 1968 and her cosmetology teaching license in 1969, something she was very proud of. She went on to own and operate Howard’s Beauty Shop for many years before retiring in 2014.

In 1972, Debbie traveled to Hawaii with a friend, a trip she often talked about over the years. She also enjoyed family trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and going out to eat with family and friends.

Debbie was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she had been active with the Friends Fellowship and Happy Workers Circle. Her love of the Lord was very important to her, and she had a special love for cardinals.

In her free time, Debbie was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching. She was also an excellent baker and was known for her pecan and lemon sponge pies. Around the holidays, her mincemeat pies were always a family favorite.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Laraine K. Howard of York; several cousins; and many dedicated friends.

Debbie had many friends at the Opera House Apartments in Red Lion, and her family is grateful for the love and support they gave to her over the years.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Kingston Court Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care they provided to Debbie during her stay, as well as Gentiva Hospice for the love and support shown to Debbie and her family during this time.

A graveside service to honor Debbie’s life will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery, 1675 Furnace Road, Brogue, PA 17309, with Pastor Beth Holz officiating. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 3070 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
