Obituary

Delores I. (Kinard) Bortner, 89, formerly of York, entered into eternal rest at 4 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Dallastown Nursing Center. She was the wife of James C. Bortner, Jr., who entered into rest on January 1, 2011. She was born in Windsor, on March 25, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Charles Clinton and Viola Pauline (Emenheiser) Kinard. Delores was a manager in the Accounts Payable Department at The Bon Ton and a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Red Lion. She is survived by four daughters, Pamela J. Girvin and husband, Paul L. of York, Deborah A. Wandling of Newtown, Denise I. Carlton of Gibsonia, and Christi L. Mitzel and husband, James E. of Red Lion; a son, James C. Bortner, III and wife, Lynda M. of York; six grandchildren, Traci Emswiler, Tammi Casey, Elizabeth A. Anderson, Daniel J. Carlton, Michael J. Bortner, and Ryan D. Bortner; four great-grandchildren, Zachary E. Emswiler, Mitchell A. Emswiler, Nathaniel L. Casey, and Alexandra J. Casey; a brother, Charles Kinard of Red Lion; a sister, Norma Enders of Ortanna; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved Benji. She was preceded by a son-in-law, Robert Bruce Wandling. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion . Service of Honor and Praise for Delores will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. David D. Tietje, officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Alzheimer's Association GPA, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to the American Liver Foundation americanliverfoundation.org ; or to Access York, 633 S. George St., York, PA 17401. Delores was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother who always put her family first. She loved crafts, ceramics, and painting. She was the best cook and loved to bake and work on family genealogy. She enjoyed Big Band music. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Grane Hospice and to the staff of Dallastown Nursing Center for all of the wonderful care extended to their Mother and to them during her stay there and her time of illness.
