Strayer

Denton H. Strayer, of Red Lion, entered into rest during a brief stay at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the age of 91. He was the husband of Norma Jean (Hengst) Strayer, whom he married on May 19, 1956.
Denton was born in Winterstown on February 28, 1938 to the late Howard David and Violet Ruth (Godfrey) Strayer. He was an auto mechanic and service manager for General Tire and Bergey's Tire and Auto Service Centers, retiring at age 62. After his retirement, he worked part time at the former Pade Auto Auction. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Denton and his family proudly camped in 48 states, creating cherished memories along the way. He loved square dancing, traveling abroad with Norma, watching NASCAR, vegetable gardening, but most importantly, Denton was extremely proud of his service to his country during his time spent in the United States Navy. He was a member of Bethlehem Stonepile Church for over 60 years.
Besides his wife, Denton leaves his daughter, Cathy S. Fauber and husband, Mark of Mechanicsburg; his son, Timothy D. Strayer and life partner, Bonnie Mench of Red Lion; his grandchildren: David T. Strayer of Hanover, Daniel W. Strayer of Enola, Jonathan B. Fauber of Dillsburg, Emilie J. Matthews of New Cumberland, Rebecca M. Fauber and fiancé, AJ Hutchison of Denver, Colorado, and Cassandra L. Strayer and fiancé, Kyle Slyder of Dover; his great-grandchildren: Livia R. Strayer of Hanover, Lexa R. Strayer of Hanover, Layland A. Matthews of New Cumberland, and Elliot M. Matthews of New Cumberland; his siblings: Janet Dunlap of Felton and Terry L. Strayer of Felton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Strayer and sister, Miriam Brown.
A viewing for Denton will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Bethlehem Stonepile Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Road, Red Lion, PA 17356 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Bryant Holtzapple officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided to Denton as well as to Hospice & Community Care for their support & compassion shown to everyone in the family during this time.
