Obituary

Dolores J. (Snyder) Flowers, 84, died peacefully at 12:12 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the inpatient facility of Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy, after a brief illness. She was the wife of Granville "Bud" M. Flowers, who entered into rest on October 17, 1987. She was born in Trenton, N.J., on June 8, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Dorothy R. (Rahe) Snyder. Dolores was a homemaker and worked at the former Lock Box in Emigsville. She also worked at Brown's Orchard for many years. She graduated from Trenton High School Class of 1948. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Loganville. Surviving are her children, Terry L. Mackie and wife, Jeanine of Belvidere, N.J., Lloyd H. Mackie and wife, Judy of Parker, Colo., Rev. Sandra R. Mackie of Gettysburg, Dennis E. Mackie and wife, Spring of Abbottstown, Sharon L. Hodge and husband, Roy of Glen Rock, Barry N. Mackie and wife, Julie of Driftwood, and Brenda L. Boyer and husband, Craig of Red Lion; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three nieces. She was predeceased by her former husband, Henry Mackie, and her sister, Joyce (Snyder) Small. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, September 11, at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Honor and Praise for Dolores will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with her pastor, Douglas L. DeStephano, officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels, Red Lion Area Senior Center, Inc., 20 Gotham Place, Red Lion, PA 17356; or Red Lion Emergency Medical Services, P.O. Box 190, Red Lion, PA, 17356; or Bob Fryer Inpatient Center, Hospice and Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552. Dolores was a quiet soul who traveled gently through this life, who loved her family above all, and who received particular joy in her grandchildren. If the world's problems could be solved through great cooking, Dolores would have won a Nobel Peace Prize for her pot roast and homemade peanut butter candy. She will be greatly missed by family members, friends and neighbors. Scripture tells us that God is Love. Dolores was the embodiment of that kind of unconditional love for everyone around her.
