Donald L. Jones, of Red Lion, accepted the hand of his Lord and Savior, when he heard him whisper his name, on Sunday, March 12, 2023, from his residence at 12 noon, with his wife by his side, at the age of 77. He was married to Deborah S. (Scott) Jones of Red Lion, on September 25, 1971, celebrating 51 years of marriage together.
He was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Bradford County, on January 8, 1946, and was the son of the late Clifford R. and Marion K. (Stevens) Jones. Donald graduated from Athens High School and went on to college earning a bachelor's degree. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served for 4 years. He was a long-time employee of Croft Lumber in Sayre, PA, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion for 18 years, where he served as an usher and involved in other activities when needed. Donald was a member of the Rural Amity Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge # 70 in Athens, PA and a member of the Men's Club at Equine Meadows. Donald was an avid gardener, enjoyed challenging jigsaw puzzles, completing the NY Times crossword puzzles and cheering on his favorite Baltimore sports teams.
Donald and Deborah have two daughters, Jennifer L. Young of Parkton, MD and Christina M. Hoskins (husband, John) of Sarasota, FL. He was the loving grandfather to: Morgan Young, and twins, Brendan and Graydon Young. Donald was one of three boys, leaving his brother, Steven Jones (wife, Kathy) of Athens, PA., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Jones.
Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Memorial Service to Honor and Praise Donald's life will be held on April 16, 2023, at 2pm, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, with his pastor, Rev. Ronald Doverspike, officiating. Family and friends are invited to extend their condolences from 1:30-2pm, just prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place in Windsor Cemetery following the service, with full military rites offered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
