Donald Lee Ness, age 82, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully at WellSpan York Hospital on Friday, January 9, 2026. Born in Felton on July 5, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert and Esther (Waltimyer) Ness. He was the devoted and loving husband of RoAnn P. (Moats) Ness, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage after being wed on August 30, 1984.
Don was an assembler for the former Cole Business Furniture in York for many years and later worked for Johnson Controls until his retirement. A man who truly appreciated the simple joys of life, he loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and treasured the many camping trips shared with family in Potter and Perry Counties. He also cherished the quieter moments camping with RoAnn at the Old Stonehedge Campground in New Bridgeville.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children: Daniel L. Ness, Sr., and his wife, Tenia; Lorraine Lewis and her husband, Joseph; Troy Keller and his wife, Amy; Tammy Byers and her husband, Ben; and Wendy Schofield and her husband, Michael; his 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy in his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat Leiphart; Betty Keiser and her husband, Wayne; and Cindy Lewis. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Ness; his grandson, Darren Bonilla; his sister Doris Deisinger; and his brothers, Richard Ness, Robert Ness, and Dean Ness.
A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Grace Church Shrewsbury, 473 Plank Road, New Freedom. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and again at a luncheon in the church social hall following the service, where memories and fellowship will be shared.
