Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Dixon) Andrus, of York and formerly of Red Lion, passed away at Country Meadows of York – West on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Ronald G. Andrus, the love of her life.

Born in Nathan’s Creek, North Carolina, on April 5, 1936, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Edgar and Clara (Elliot) Dixon. She was a graduate of North Harford High School and worked as an accountant for the former Borg Warner, retiring at the age of 55. Dorothy and Ron knew each other earlier in life and later found their way back to one another, sharing 21 years together filled with travel and adventure. They lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and for a time, outside of Nags Head.

Dorothy had a gift for gardening and was recognized for her talent in several published articles. She was also a skilled seamstress who enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and a variety of creative pursuits. She loved her boys deeply. Growing up, she spent time riding plow horses, which carried into a lifelong love of horseback riding.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin C. Flaharty and his wife, Michelle, of Millersville, Maryland; Jeffrey F. Flaharty of Red Lion; and Tom E. Flaharty and his wife, Lee, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; her stepchildren, Jan Klinedinst and her husband, John, and Jeffrey Andrus; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leslie, Harold, Mary Frances, Charles, Maxine, Clara, and French.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
