Obituary

HALLAM Edgar E. "Ted" Urey, 97, entered into rest at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Center, York. He was the husband of Betty L. (Baldwin) Urey of Hallam, and Mildred L. (Flaharty) Urey, who entered into rest in 1982. He was born in Chanceford Twp., on February 5, 1914, and was the son of the late Joseph D. and Florence Etta (Riale) Urey. Ted was a self-employed owner/operator of the former JD Urey and Sons Well Drilling for 45 years, then worked at the former Tobacco New Forms in Red Lion as a supervisor, retiring in 1986. He was a member of member of Red Lion Lodge #649 Free and Accepted Masons; a life member of Harrisburg Consistory AASR, Supreme Forest-Tall Cedars of Lebanon #30 York, Red Lion Scottish Rite; and Rainbow Chapter #517 Order of the Eastern Star Red Lion. Ted was a member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church and SS since the age of 14, where he was a former Deacon and Trustee, an assistant to SS secretary, and served on the stewardship committee. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Keiser of Newark, Del., and husband, Stephen, and Lana M. George of Lititz and husband, Harold "Skip"; two grandchildren, Kristal Courter and Stephen Keiser, II; two great-grandchildren; one stepson, Brian D. Koller of Hellam; a stepdaughter, Kelly L. Seiple of York and husband, Daryl; six stepgrandchildren, Amber, Gretchen, Taylor, Kirstynn, Austin, and Dalton; and two step great-grandchildren. There will be no viewing. Following cremation, family and friends are invited to extend their condolences on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Masonic Rites will be given at 2:45 p.m. by Red Lion Lodge #649 F.& A. M. A memorial service to celebrate Ted's life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Robert S. Edmundson, officiating. Burial will be at New Harmony Presbyterian Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to York Health Foundation Cancer Patient Help Fund, 912 S. George St., York, PA 17403; or to New Harmony Presbyterian Church Deacon Fund, 2295 Delta Road, Brogue, PA 17309. Ted was a loving husband, father, and grandfather - a special friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
