York – Florence M. Torbert, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2022 in the care of her family and with them by her side. She was born in Brodbecks, PA and the daughter of the late William and Lettie M. (Nafe) Miller. Florence was the wife of the late Curtis H. Torbert who passed in 2012; mom to "her twins", son Hugh Torbert and his wife Patricia of York, PA and daughter Jill L. Holtzapple of New Cumberland, PA; took great pride in her four grandchildren Austin Holtzapple and wife Heaven, Megan Torbert and fiancé Austin, Kayla Holtzapple and Nicholas Torbert; adoring great grandma to Austin and Cayden Holtzapple; and was aunt to numerous nephews and nieces. Sisters Treva R. Miller and Virginia Sterner preceded her in death. Florence was a graduate of the Class of 1947 from Codorus Township High School. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Dallastown and a former member of St. Jacob's (Stone) United Church of Christ of Glenville, PA. Always having the heart of a caregiver, Florence was a licensed practical nurse for the practice of Dr. Richard E. Heller in Dallastown and then a private duty nurse for Dr. Philip A. and Elizabeth (Betty) J. Hoover of Dallastown until her retirement. An accomplished seamstress, Florence sewed clothes for herself and others, doll clothes and curtains. She also had a love of baking – especially pies. It was well known that if Florence was attending a gathering, she would be bringing freshly made pies! Florence was fiercely independent, living on her own until her recent illness. A graveside service with Rev. Stephany Sechrist officiating will be held at the convenience of the family. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting with the arrangements.
