Obituary

Joseph A. Mula, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, with his beloved wife, Gloria, by his side.

Joe first saw Gloria through a car window while driving through Dallastown in 1950. That moment began a love story that would span 76 extraordinary years. At just 22 years old, he married the beautiful woman who had captured his heart, and together they built a life centered around love and family. Though the years passed, one thing never changed: Joe looked at Gloria with the same adoring eyes he had the moment he first saw her, right up to the end of his life.

Joe lived his life for his family. He was the most kindhearted man many had the privilege of knowing, with a warmth and compassion that made people feel instantly at home in his presence. Whether he was singing a song to the youngsters in his life, cracking a joke, or telling a story, Joe had a way of making ordinary moments feel special.

A proud Marine, Joe served his country during World War II. After his time in the military, he worked alongside his brothers in several business ventures before his retirement. While he valued his work and his service, his greatest accomplishment was the family he built and cared for so deeply.

Joe was the last surviving child of ten born to the late Ferdinando and Carmela (Zambito) Mulé, who immigrated to the United States from Cattolica Eraclea, Sicily, Italy, in 1911.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria; his son, Fred Mula and his wife, Jane; his grandchildren, Joe Mula and his wife, Kelly, and Amanda (Mula) Cregger and her husband, Brad; his four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Siena, Ava, and FJ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his most treasured gift, his daughter, Carmen Mula, as well as several nieces and nephews whom he held dear.

With Joe’s passing, a generation of Mulés has come to a close, but the legacy they created lives on—in family, in togetherness, and in the deep bond that continues to connect those who came after them.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 3070 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
