Obituary

RED LION Henrietta (Heikes) Kahler, 88, entered into rest unexpectedly on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at 9:15 p.m. She was the wife of Richard J. Kahler, of York, to whom she was married on December 7, 1940, in Palacios, Texas, celebrating 71 years together. Henrietta was born in York on February 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Sarah E. (Kibler) and Floyd E. Heikes, Sr. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brogue. She is survived by four daughters, Charolette Buckingham and husband, Donald of Red Lion, Julia E. Kinard of York, Colleen J. Fitzsimmons of Cleveland, Tenn., and Cynthia M. Herbst and husband, John of Wrightsville; two sons, Samuel R. Kahler of York, and Luke A. Kahler of Airville; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd E. Heikes, Jr. of York, Roy I. Heikes of Hellam, Stewart J. Heikes of Melbourne, FL; and one sister, Helen E. Zeigler of Wrightsville. She was preceded in death by one son, James M. Kahler who entered into rest in 1942. Viewings will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with her pastor, Rev. Randy J. Starr, officiating. Burial will be at Susquhanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 48 Muddy Creek Forks Rd, Brogue, PA 17309. Henrietta was a loving, compassionate, caring lady who always put others' needs before her own. Her family meant everything to her and she will be sadly missed.
