James retired from his position at Towson University in 2007. His professional career included remarkable work in carpentry and maintenance. He had a passion for life and his family. He loved the outdoors, camping, boating, crabbing, crafting, and flowers, especially roses. Whether it was camping with his friends, working side by side with his son, or crafting with his daughter, his commitment to his wife and family was unsurpassed. He owned horses, dogs, cats, and various farm animals at some point during his adult life. While he was an accomplished horseman, he actually trained and showed dogs for several years. Everyone who knew him recognized that he was a true animal lover. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and remained active in several fraternal organizations including 35 years at the Stewartstown American Legion and a lifetime member at the Stewartstown VFW.

James is survived by his wife Charlotte Anne (Chaney) Hall of 57 years. He is also survived by his son James M. Hall, Ill and daughter-in-law Julie M. (Weil) Hall; daughter Pamela J. Moser and son-in-law Daniel D. Moser; and daughter Michele S. Bilello and son-in-law Andrew C. Bilello; in addition to his six grandchildren, Zacaria Moser, Matthew Moser, Katherine Bilello, Joshua Bilello, Anne Marie Hall, and Ashley Hall. He is also survived by his brother Francis Hall, and his sister Dorothy Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Sulpizio, and his brother William Hall.

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was respected and cherished by all who knew him. His love for his family and friends is an example to all of us. He will always be remembered for his passion for life, kindness, generosity, and infectious personality.
