Janet E. (Schemerhorn) Wichert, of York, entered into rest at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehab – South York, on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 8:10 PM at the age of 83. She was the wife of the late Frederick W. Wichert, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage prior to his passing in August of 1988 and the companion of Lyone "Buckie" J. Shay who entered into rest in February of 2019. Janet was born in Allegany, NY on July 15, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Edwin A. Schemerhorn and Ada M. Russell. She graduated from Allegany High School and was the Choir Director and Organist at First Presbyterian Church of Allegany. Janet also sang in the Olean Community Choir and loved to play the piano and organ as well as gardening and singing. She was very musically gifted, sharing her talents and accomplishments with many others during her time at the church. She leaves behind her daughter, Christina A. Lamendola, of York, her son, Frederick W. Wichert, Jr., of Las Vegas, one grandson, Ian M. Lamendola, of Dover, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two step brothers, Don and Edward Nolberg. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
