IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan (Wilt)
Nuzum
July 8, 1931 – September 1, 2025
Joan Nuzum, age 94, died at 3:40 p.m. on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at WellSpan York Hospital.
Joan was born on July 8th, 1931, in Yoe, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of Wilmer C. Wilt and Salynda Mae Wilt (Miller). She was the wife of the late Herman R. Nuzum.
Loving family and friends surrounded her as she left this mortal life to be welcomed to heaven. Many tears were shed for this wonderful woman; memories were recalled — all with a sense of love, gratitude, and privilege to have had Joan in our lives. Joan was special, kind, loving, smart, wise, and had the best sense of humor. For many of us, she was the best person we ever knew.
She was a woman of wide interests and abilities. She loved people, especially children. Joan spent most of her working life babysitting and shaping the children of Red Lion in her home — and often the children of those children, as well. She was widely known as "Aunt Joan" and "Joanie" throughout Red Lion. She loved the children, and they loved her. She loved ice cream, parties, all family gatherings, holidays, and family vacations. She enjoyed traveling and once rode in a helicopter, as well as a hot air balloon. She was creative and enjoyed crafts and painting. Socializing was her specialty, and Vitamin C was her cure for all that ailed her — she was quick to recommend it to one and all. She never stopped learning and even obtained her ham radio license later in life. She was still driving at age 94, in daylight and for short distances, to visit or eat out with family and friends.
Joan is survived by a son, Steve R. Nuzum; a sister, Lynda Wilt; and her grandchildren, James A. Wiley, Elizabeth A. Isennock and her husband Alexander Isennock, and Leah V. James; as well as her great-granddaughter, Willow E. Isennock. She also had many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Nuzum; her brother, Wilmer L. Wilt; and her son, Greg A. Nuzum.
