Obituary

Kenton R. McGinnis, 88, died on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Country Meadows. He was the husband of the late Elaine V. (Geesey) McGinnis, sharing almost 57 years of marriage prior to her death in 2017. Kenton was born in Winterstown on December 8, 1936, son of the late Russell Royston and Frieda (Curran) McGinnis.

Kenton was a 1954 graduate of Red Lion High School and served in the U.S. Army as an E4 Artillery Specialist. In his younger years, he worked for various farmers and delivered the Grit newspaper throughout the Winterstown area. He later worked in construction with R.S. Noonan and retired from Kinsley in 2000 as a project superintendent. Kenton enjoyed playing baseball, especially catching, growing up, in high school, and into his early 40's playing for Stewartstown and Winterstown and was inducted in 2002 into the Susquehanna Baseball Hall of Fame. In his 20's Kenton was invited and tried out for the Kansas City Athletic, a major league team. While not selected, he was grateful for the opportunity.  Kenton was avid baseball fan, especially of the Orioles— but also enjoyed watching various local Susquehanna Baseball League games each summer.

A lifetime member of Winterstown Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist Church, serving on the Trustee Committee, ushering, singing in the choir, mowing, and overseeing the church's last major renovation and expansion in 2002. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad and spent nearly 20 years snow birding in Florida. He bowled in a couple's league at Lion Bowl in the late 1960's and early 1970's, loved golfing, and often relaxed performing word search puzzles. Above all, Kenton's greatest joy was his family, who were always his number one priority.

His son, Kenton R. "Buddy" McGinnis, Jr., and his wife, Ann (Gladfelter) McGinnis; survive him; brother-in-law, Malcolm "Mike" Herrick; sister-in-law, Pam McGinnis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings: O. Kathleen Snyder, Donald McGinnis, Derroll McGinnis, J. Kay Herrick, and Dana McGinnis.
