Luckey Lee Powlas, age 90, of York, PA, formerly of Arlington, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 30, 2026. Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Levi Luckey Powlas and the late Myrtle (Smallwood) Powlas. He was the devoted and loving husband of Margaret G. “Peggy” (Jefferson) Powlas, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Their story began with a blind date and grew into a lifetime of love after they were married on October 10, 1959.
Luckey left college to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his time in the service, he began his career with AT&T, where he worked faithfully for many years before retiring as a computer analyst.
A man of strong faith and commitment, Luckey was a founding member of the former Temple Baptist Church in York, PA (now Freedom Biker Church), and took great pride in helping to build it. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League, York Chapter #67, and the Free and Accepted Masons.
Luckey found great joy in the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved hunting deer, turkey, and bear at his family’s cabin in Virginia and at camp in the Endless Mountains of Clinton County, PA. He also enjoyed watching car races, but nothing meant more to him than the time he spent with his family, whom he loved deeply.
In addition to his beloved wife Peggy, Luckey is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Mansberger and her husband, Melvin; his son, Thomas Powlas and his wife, Karen; his sister, Peggy Longerbeam; his two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory.
A celebration of Luckey’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Freedom Biker Church, 2550 Pine Grove Road, York. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 12:00 noon in Oakwood Cemetery, 401 North Roosevelt Street, Falls Church, VA.
