Obituary

M. Donald "Obie" Overmiller of Red Lion, went to heaven on Monday, July 23, 2018 after a brief illness at his home, at 10:42 am at the age of 87, with his wife, Janet D. (List) Overmiller by his side to whom he married on July 1, 1950, celebrating 68 years together. He was born in Springfield Twp., in a farm house, on January 5, 1931 to the late Morgan H. and M. Marguerite (Reimold) Overmiller. He was a longtime member of Winterstown United Methodist Church and was involved in various committees. He joined church at the age of 14 and his church remained an important part of his daily life. Obie was a tool and die maker for the former Key Plastics/Superior Mold Builders for 21 years, retiring in 1995. He was also a member of the Winterstown Fire Company and the Izaak Walton League. Besides his wife, Janet , he leaves three daugters to cherish his memory, Jill A. Sechrist and husband Jere of Shrewsbury, Sylvia J. Vannoy and husband Millard "Jr" of Cambridge, MD and Kim E. Thompson and husband Edwin of Fawn Grove. Obie was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Sarah, Rachael, Tyler, Shera, Jeremy and Jacob and five great grandchildren, Simon, Layla, Jane, Morgan and Lydia. He leaves his brother, James Overmiller and wife Pastor Ann, and a sister, Sandy Wagner and husband Dennis of Spring Grove, along with numerus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin, and brothers, Charles, Emerson and Richard, and a sister, Jacqueline. Viewing will be on Thursday, July 25th from Noon to 2 pm at Winterstown United Methodist Church, 12184 Winterstown Road, Felton. A Service of Honor and Praise for Obie will begin at 2 pm at the church with Pastor Ann Overmiller, his sister in law and his pastor, Rev. David K. Shultz officiating. Burial will be at Winterstown UB Cemetery. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion will be assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may of offered to: Winterstown UB Cemetery, 5722 Pleasant View Road, Red Lion, PA 17356-8065. Donald was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed country music and was especially tickled when he was able to get his picture taken with Box Car Willy. Obie and his brothers were avid bowlers and won four championships over the years. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and in 1967, while working as a fire policeman, he assisted in stopping traffic in Dallastown when President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady, Lady Bird came for a visit. The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support as they remember Donald as a good Husband, Daddy and Grandpa. He will be forever in our hearts. A special thank you is extended to the SpiriTrust Hospice and staff who were so helpful and to all of our Christian friends and neighbors for your support and help during this difficult time.
