Marie Elizabeth Folk-Lighty, entered into eternal rest after a lengthy illness on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the age of 67. She was the loving wife of George Walter Lighty, Jr with whom she celebrated 42 years together. Born in Jersey City, NJ to Henrietta E. (Pfeil) Folk of Toms River, New Jersey and the late V. Paul Folk, Marie's caring nature led her to become a Registered Nurse, earning a Diploma at the Mt. Sinai Nursing School, NYC, a BSN from the University of MD, and a MSN from the University of PA. As a member of the American Nurses Assn., American Heart Assn., American Assn. of Critical Care Nurses and American Burn Assn., she was committed to furthering nursing education. She was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, and retired after 20 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel, Army Nurse Corps AUS. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
She is survived by her husband, Mother and son, Christopher G.F. Lighty (Jeanne) of Fairfax, VA, daughter, Megan E.F. Lighty of Willmar, MN, sister, Paula Sadowski of Yorktown, VA, nephews, Mark and Scott Sadowski and niece, Lynn Mason. She had a vibrant personality, a giant, kind and gentle heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Viewing will be on Thurs., August 4th from 6-8 pm and on Friday from 10 – 11 am at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A service of Honor and Praise for Marie will be on Friday, August 5th at 11 am at the funeral home. Pastor Laura Haupt will officiate. Burial will be in Freysville Cemetery with full military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
