IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Filipelli
April 24, 1958 – June 10, 2025
Under a full moon, Michael J. Filipelli, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully after his loved ones wished him a goodnight at the age of 67. Michael was the life of the party, a loyal friend, and a kind soul. He lived a full life and always knew how to have a good time.
Born in 1958 in Syracuse, NY, Michael moved to Baltimore before relocating to York with his family in 1978. He graduated from East Syracuse Minoa and became a celebrated hair stylist, hockey coach, musician, poker player, and beloved member of the community. Also known as "The Pianoman" or "The Big Kahuna," Michael's love of music and extreme talent was a gift to us all. From DJing at The Hop to playing with Danny and the Juniors, Easy Street, and Jeanne, he entertained thousands with his musings and wild singalongs.
As a gifted card player, you needed to be ready for Amadeus to come to the table and tattoo Goodyear across your forehead. "In his more athletic days", Michael was a force on the rink. Developing a love of hockey at a young age, he excelled as a player, referee, and coach. He is credited with organizing many hockey leagues in his community.
But it was in his roles as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend that Michael's heart truly shone. He was a pillar of support to those around him—always quick with a warm smile, a helping hand, or a story to make you laugh. Michael's sense of humor and generosity touched the lives of all who had the honor of knowing him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Teresa "Bubbles"; mother-in-law, Irene; loving children, Lynda, Lisa, and Kaitlin; his stepchildren, Heide and Brittany; and his grandchildren, McKenzie, Madison, Chase, Macey, Reagan, Sadie, Kennedy, Layton, and Jolene. The leader of the pack, he also leaves behind his cherished siblings, Laurie, Mary Lou, John, and Joe; his estranged sister, Tracy; and extended family by marriage—Seth, Dan, Ray, Danny, Ken, Rod, Laura, and Jess—members who will forever hold his memory close. We could spend all day listing the names of people Michael considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Patricia, and his beloved Aunt Dot.
Whether hanging out at Shangrila, playing a round of poker, cheering on the Green Bay Packers (of which he was a part-owner), dining with Stevie Nicks, or simply enjoying a laugh, Michael found joy in the most mundane. His legacy of love, never-ending supply of advice, and over-the-top humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 6:00 pm at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, with Pastor Aaron Kunce of Living Word Community Church officiating. A time to visit with friends and family will begin at 4:00 pm. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Michael's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or to a charity of your choosing. If any Green Bay Packers are available for the service, we welcome you as pallbearers—to let him down one last time.
