Obituary

Michael A. McCleary, 79, died on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Rest Haven.

He was the husband of Mary Jane (Stein) McCleary.

Michael was born in York on October 22, 1946, son of the late Clarence and Romona (Gentzler) McCleary.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he drove armored mechanized vehicles. Following his military service, he built a career as Vice President of York Federal Savings and Loan before opening his own business, The Dark Room, Inc. He had an appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Michael was also a dedicated member of the Isaac Walton League.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael S. McCleary and his wife, Kimberly of York and James D. McCleary and his wife, Lisa of Pittsburgh; stepson, Gregory L. Keller and his wife, Janine of York; his sister, Karen Shenberger; four grandchildren, Ashley (McCleary) Santos, Erin (Keller) Tibbett, Ian McCleary, and Josie McCleary and step grandson, Jordan Hansford.

Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Great American Saloon, 20 Dairyland Square, Red Lion.
