Obituary

Mildred Marie (Doll) Wilson, 86, of Red Lion went to be with the Lord Sunday morning April 16, 2023 at 9:00 a.m., in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Windsor Township on July 16, 1936, she was the second of four daughters of Milford Jefferson Doll and Ruth Anna (Shelley) Doll. Growing up, Mildred attended Portner's one-room School and Red Lion High School. She met Howard Fillmore Wilson at her church picnic, the two soon fell in love, and married on December 19, 1953. They would have celebrated 70 loving years together this December. Mildred was a devoted mother and housewife, but also pursued other work interests over the years, including work in a sewing factory, the McCrory's store at the York Mall, and FINCOR INCOM. Mildred enjoyed many hobbies and shared her love for those interests with friends and family. Some of the things she enjoyed doing in her free time were crocheting, flower gardening, scrapbooking and creating photo albums, crafting, and researching family genealogy. She always had a knack for interior design, and enjoyed keeping her home on trend as furniture and design styles evolved over the six decades she and Howard shared there. Another favorite pastime of hers was shopping, and she even opened her own consignment shop, "Millie's Modiste" in Red Lion for a brief time in the 1990s. Perhaps most notably, though, Mildred loved to see the world. Her passion for vacations around the country in the family camper, tent camping, or staying in hotels created memories our family will never forget. She loved the beach as well as the mountains, and the family spent many joyful times at Betterton Beach, Ocean City, MD, Rehoboth and other east coast beaches, as well as at her daughter's and other friends' cabins in Fulton County, PA. After her retirement, she enjoyed going on cruises, bus trips, and various vacations with friends and family. Her travels took her all around the US, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii, as well as abroad to England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Nova Scotia, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. A lifelong member of Bethlehem Stonepile UM Church, Mildred was involved in many activities there throughout her lifetime, such as singing in the church choir, volunteering with vacation Bible school, working at the church picnic, and acting as acolyte coordinator for many years. She also volunteered time with the Springvale preschool. In addition to her husband, Mildred leaves five children to cherish the memories she created with them; Cynthia (Donald) Sparks of Red Lion, Carla (Glenn) Stahl of Felton, Shelley (Dane) Hildebrand of York, Howard "Buddy" (Shelley) Wilson of Red Lion, and Jeremey Wilson of York and Rehoboth Beach, DE. She also loved and adored every one of her six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Mildred is also survived by many nieces and nephews, loving cousins, and friends who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Stahl, a great-granddaughter, Shawn Shatto, and her three sisters. A visitation with the family will be held at Burg Funeral Home, 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion Thursday April 20, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. Mildred's funeral will be officiated by her pastor, William Jones, at Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Road, Red Lion on Friday April 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., with an hour visitation before the service. Interment will follow immediately at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Stonepile UM Church or White Rose Hospice, 224 St. Charles Way, Suite 100, York, PA 17402.
