Obituary

Mildred Irene (Sword) Irick, 84 passed away on July 22, 2010 after a brief illness. Born August 27, 1925 in Marion's Branch, Pikeville, KY. She lived for many years in Columbia, MD. and was a member of the Laurel Church of Christ. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was affectionately known as "Memaw." She turned her talents in baking into a nearly two decade career as a cake decorator. All her life, Mildred made beautiful things with her loving, talented hands including clothes for her family, quilts, delicious food and baked goods. She also enjoyed refinishing furniture and going to yard sales. First and foremost in her life, however, was her family. She is survived by her sister, Helena Damron and her husband Kenneth; her brothers, Foster Sword and his wife Delores, and Cecil Sword and his wife, Lillian; her daughters, Jo Ann Jones and her husband John, Bonnie Hurlbrink and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Patrick Conley, Angela Warfield, Caitlin Warfield, Dane Hurlbrink, Kevin Hurlbrink, and Kelly Zamora; three great grandchildren, Daniel Conley, Marley Hurlbrink, and Presley Hurlbrink; and other close family members, Scott Warfield, Larry Conley, and Martha Randall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Mason Irick; her daughter, Yvonne Conley; and her granddaughter, Lisa Conley. Viewings will be 5 to 6 p.m. for family, and for all others 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 26 and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at J.W. Call and Son Funeral Home, 703 Hambley Blvd., Pikeville, KY. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Annie F. Young Cemetery in East Shelbiana, officiated by Robert Werntz, minister of Sharondale Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Heartland Hospice Care, 3417C Concord Rd, York, PA 17402.
