Nancy Louise (Silar) Day, 85, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, entered into rest at her home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and daughter. She shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Richard A. Day, Jr., whom she married on July 7, 1963.

Nancy was born in Windsor on September 20, 1940, to the late Curtis E. and Rosetta M. (Snell) Silar. She was a 1958 graduate of Red Lion High School, graduated from the York Hospital School of Nursing, and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hood College, beginning a lifelong career dedicated to caring for others.

Following Richard's honorable discharge from the United States Navy, the couple made their home in Harrisburg, where Nancy worked at Polyclinic Hospital. They later relocated to Philadelphia, where she continued her nursing career at Chestnut Hill Hospital. Nancy also spent time working in pediatric nursing before retiring after 18 years of service with the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C.

Nancy and Richard shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring destinations throughout Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Greece, Morocco, and Europe. They also enjoyed taking road trips in their Corvettes. Nancy found great joy in cooking and loved trying different cuisines, especially Mediterranean and Italian dishes.

In addition to her loving husband, Richard, Nancy will be dearly missed by her daughter, Tracy R. Day; her sister, Joy Ann Conrad; and her cousin, Carol Frey. She was preceded in death by her son, Dwayne L. Silar; her parents; and her two other siblings.

A graveside service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Salem Community Cemetery, 460 Salem Church Road, Windsor, with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 3070 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
