Obituary

Nancy Sue Wagner, age 81, of York, died peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Born in Waynesboro on May 18, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Franklin Smith and Octavia (Hassinger) Smith. Nancy was the loving wife of Marlin Wagner, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing in 1998.

Nancy went on to devote her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse for many years until her retirement at York Hospital. Even after retiring, her compassion for others led her to continue serving as a nurse with Visiting Angels, where she touched many lives with her kindness and gentle spirit.

Nancy loved spending time at “Camp Ruthford” in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania and at the beach, places where she found peace and joy. She and her husband, Marlin, raised Belgian horses and took great pride in sharing them with others through carriage rides. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Dover. Above all, Nancy was a devoted and loving grandmother and great-grandmother who found her greatest happiness in the time she spent with her family.

Nancy is survived by her sons, C. Douglas Grimes and his wife, Pamela; Robert A. Grimes; and Patrick F. Grimes and his wife, Heather. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor Quigley and her husband, Patrick; Olivia Grimes; and Lyllie Grimes; her great-granddaughter, Maeve Quigley; and her stepson, Brian Wagner. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Bittinger and Melba Smith, and her stepdaughter, Bobbie Lynn May.

Her family will gather privately to celebrate and remember Nancy’s life. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Servies, Inc., 3070 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, PA 17356 is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences can be given at www.wagner-elfner-burg.com.
