Obituary

YORK Norma R. (Adams) Almoney McConnell, 80, entered into rest on Saturday July 9, 2011, at 8:40 p.m. at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of Robert E. McConnell of York, whom she married on October 12, 1985, and the late George J. Almoney, who died in 1982. Born January 13, 1931, in York, she was the daughter of the late Victor S. and Elizabeth (Spangler) Adams. She was a homemaker, a life member of life member of Fourth United Methodist Church in York, a graduate of William Penn High School in 1949, and went to Millersville for classes to work as a teacher's aide. In addition to her husband Robert, she is survived by a son, Bruce D. Almoney of Manchester and his wife, Jean; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two step daughters, Barbara Haner of Shiloh and Ruth Holtzinger of Red Lion; a step son, Gary Sutton of Red Lion; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Adams of Red Lion and William Adams of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. Mitchell M. Galloway, officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be offered to York County Special Olympics, 215 S. Sixth Street, Mt. Wolf, PA 17347; or the Fourth UM Church, 1067 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
