Obituary

Pat A. (Patterson) Messerly, of Red Lion, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at York Hospital at the age of 78. Pat's cause of death was due to a stroke. Pat was the wife of Fred W. Messerly, with whom she shared 60+ years of marriage. Born on October 1, 1942 in York, Pat was the daughter of the late John and Marian (Davis) Patterson. Pat was the owner of the Susquehanna Canoe Shoppe in Red Lion where she sold several lines of high-quality kayaks and canoes. She was active in the Conewago Canoe Club and was also an active member of the Mother of Twins Club. She was active with her church, Springvale United Methodist Church in Red Lion. She enjoyed singing both in the church choir and the chorus within her Condo Community in Equine Meadows. She was a very active lady and was loved by all of her friends. She loved to travel and covered much of the South Pacific and the Caribbean. Pat and her husband Fred & friends Jack and Linda Morningstar spent a month in the Pacific on a Tramp Steamer. Pat and Fred also spent a long time in New Guinea, perhaps the most primitive area available to visit in the world. When she was there, head hunting was still in some areas. She and her husband Fred led a wonderful life together. Pat's body is being donated to science. Besides her husband Fred, she is survived by her son, Brian Messerly of North Ft. Myers Florida, her daughter in law, Debbie Hill, of Shrewsbury. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Eden Fries and a great grandson, Laim Fies, both of Portland Oregon, a grandson, Justin Messerly and a great granddaughter, both of Glen Rock. There will be a Memorial Service at Springvale United Methodist Church in the spring of this year and details will be announced at a later date. Funeral Home Burg Funeral Home 134 W.
