Obituary

Paul L. Slenker, 88, died at his home on November 26, 2013. He was the husband of Gladys (Flinchbaugh) Slenker for 66 years. He was born June 21, 1925, the son of the late John and Gertrude (Barnhart) Slenker of Windsor Township. He was an entrepreneur, founder, owner and president of several businesses including S&D Sales Company in York, Slenker Services Contractors in Dallastown and Revonah Pretzel Bakery in Hanover. Following graduation from Red Lion High School in 1943, three days short of his 18th birthday, he joined the Navy and served the remainder of World War II in the Pacific Theater. Paul was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion. He enjoyed watching sports, painting and especially loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, concerts and activities. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kirk A. Slenker and Dr. Kevin F. Slenker; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Strickler. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Slenker. There will be a visitation on Friday, November 29 from 12 to 1 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Honor and Praise will begin at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Ronald Doverspike officiating. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, will be handling the arrangements. Burial will be at Zion United Methodist Cemetery with full military rites by the York Co. Veteran Honor Guard. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to either Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, Pa 17356; or to Alzheimer's Association GPA, 3544 N.
