Obituary

Phyllis J. (Wales) Warner, of Fawn Grove, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the wife of the late J. Austin Warner, who preceded her in death on October 24, 2003.

Phyllis was born on September 9, 1931, in Woodbine, to the late John S. and Viola S. (Richardson) Wales. A graduate of Delta High School, she went on to pursue studies at Thompson Business College. Together with her husband, she co-owned and operated the J. Austin Warner Plumbing and Heating Company, dedicating many years to the business before retiring in 1993.

Phyllis was a lifelong and deeply committed member of Fawn United Methodist Church, having joined the congregation in 1942. Her involvement in the church spanned over eight decades, most notably as the church's organist and accompanist since 1944. She shared her musical gifts in worship for over 75 years.

Beyond her music ministry, she played an active leadership role within the church, serving as chairperson of both the Worship Committee and Finance Committee. Over the years, she also served as treasurer and assistant treasurer, and was a trustee on the church's Administrative Council. She was a proud member of the Bethany Beach Delaware Landowners Association and contributed her time and efforts as a member of the Fawn Grove Borough Council.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Regina M. Glatfelter, of Windsor; and her close friends, Mary E. Pollock and her husband, Charles, of Fawn Grove. Phyllis also leaves behind many cherished friends who will remember her warmth, dedication, and unwavering kindness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Milford A. Wales, and her sister, JoAnn King.

A private graveside service will be held at Fawn Grove United Methodist Cemetery. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, is assisting the family with arrangements on behalf of Harkins Funeral Home.
