Richard R. Elwell, Sr., 72, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of Victoria Mae (Brown) Elwell, sharing 53 years of marriage.
Richard was born in San Mateo, California on July 29, 1953, son of the late Edwin Elwell, Jr. and Dorothy S. (Olson) Elwell.
Richard graduated from San Mateo High School in California and went to work as a concrete boom operator for over 40 years, training many young men under his watch. He attended Living Word Community Church in Red Lion. He loved fishing and camping, especially seasonal camping at Adventure Bound Camping Resorts at Oak Creek. He also found joy in riding his Harley. Richard was an exceptional cook who enjoyed grilling and smoking meats. He was well known among family and friends for his delicious BBQ ribs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joshua Elwell and his wife, Helena and Richard Elwell, Jr. and his wife, Cari Flora-Elwell; two daughters, Linnea Mae Elwell and Melissa Spence and her husband, Michael; eight grandchildren, Dakota Flora, Euressa Elwell and her fiancé, Keifer Dunklebarger, Jacob Spence, Gabe Elwell, Liam Elwell, Aiden Elwell, Rachel Spence, and Ian Elwell; a great grandson, Percy Dunklebarger; two sisters, Karen Elwell and Linda Hutchens; and a brother, Edwin Elwell and his wife, Diane.
Please join us for an inspirational message at Living Word Community Church, followed by a casual gathering featuring all of Rick's favorite foods and drinks as we come together to remember and celebrate his life. Together, we'll share stories, laughter, and cherished memories of a man who touched so many lives and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Services will begin on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Living Word Church Door #4 (Service), 2530 Cape Horn Rd, Red Lion, PA 17356 with light refreshments starting at 10:00 AM, and service at 11:00 AM followed by X-Golf Eldersburg (Celebration), 1346 Liberty Rd Eldersburg, Md 21784 at 3:00 PM.
