Richard A. “Rich” Hersey, 47, of Red Lion, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Born in York on April 17, 1978, he was the beloved son of Phil A. Hersey and Cynthia L. (Myers) Hersey.
Rich was a proud graduate of Red Lion Area High School, Class of 1997. He dedicated his career to serving his community as a bus driver and training instructor with Red Lion Bus Company (Krapf Group). Known affectionately for driving Bus #61, Rich genuinely loved the children he transported each day. He was deeply committed to their safety and well-being, forming meaningful connections with many of the students and families he served. His passion for his work was evident to all who knew him.
Outside of work, Rich was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed cheering them on whenever he could. He had a deep love for music and appreciated it in many forms. A talented and creative spirit, Rich was very artistic and expressed himself through his hobbies and interests. He was also known as a good cook who enjoyed preparing meals and sharing them with those he loved.
Above all, Rich was dedicated to his family. His loyalty, steady presence, and caring heart will be remembered most by those closest to him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Wendy Kay Hersey; his children, Vivian Aurora Hersey, Arthur Richard Lewis Hersey, Ashleigh Downin, Dylan Jacoby, and Zachary Feeser; his maternal grandfather, Jack M. Myers, Sr.; and many other loving family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
A celebration of Rich’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home, 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, with Rev. Stephany Sechrist officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Rich’s memory to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Gifts may be made online at https://secure.jhu.edu/form/children.
