Roy Elwood Hake, Jr., 88, of Windsor, went home to be with the lord on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 11:17 PM. Roy was the husband of Evelyn L. Hake, to whom he married on February 18, 1956, sharing 65 blessed years of marriage together.
Roy was born in Martinsville on December 21, 1932 and was the son of the late Roy E. Sr., and Lottie I. (Snell) Hake. He worked for the former Alloy Rods Corporation, which is now ESAB, where he retired after 25 years of service at the age of 63.
Roy had a passion for cars and racing, specifically NASCAR and Sprint Cars, and was a fan of Harry Gant & Jeff Gordon. He had many cars and motorcycles in his 88 years of life, and he loved to reminisce about each of them, especially his 41' black four-door Chevy and his 66' 442 Old's. He liked to drive fast and burn the tires, as he would say. In his younger years, Roy enjoyed helping his uncle, Goose Myers, build homes. Roy was a devoted Christian; he spoke about the gospel whenever he could in hopes that he could impact someone else's life from the words he spoke. Roy attended Pocus Church in Long Level. Most importantly, Roy was a family man and absolutely adored all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; especially his wife Evelyn or "Evey" to him, who he would light-up over when he spoke about. The legacy of Roy's love for family, faith and cars will forever live on through his family.
Along with his wife, Roy leaves behind his son, Michael E. Hake and wife, Vickie, of Windsor, his three daughters, Debra A. Smeltzer and husband, Todd, of Red Lion, Tammy L. McHugh and husband, William, of Red Lion, and Tina M. Coeyman and husband, Neil, of Wrightsville. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Matthew D. Smeltzer and wife, Taija, of Red Lion, Scott E. Smeltzer and wife, Chelsea, of Red Lion, Amy J. Shaffer and husband, Shawn, of Felton, Amanda L. Fritz and husband, Ryan, of Windsor, Derek L. Stiles and wife, Alison, of Mt. Wolf, and Cheyenne C. Garrett and husband, Chauncey, of East Berlin, as well as his six great grandchildren, Jayden and Brynlee Smeltzer, Connor Shaffer, Bryson Fritz and Paisley and Kara Garrett.
A viewing will be held at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 10-11 AM. A Service of Honor and Praise for Roy will begin at 11 AM with Rev. Rodney E.
