Ruth H. (Conaway) Updike, of Red Lion, went into the hands of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Wellspan York Hospital at 8:15PM at the age of 72. She was the wife of the late James B. Updike who entered into rest on January 17, 2008. Ruth was born in Moshannon, PA on July 8, 1949 and was the daughter of Chester S. and Elizabeth Ruth (Gill) Conaway. She worked for the Sheetz Convenience Stores as a cashier, retiring in 2015 after 20 years of service to the company. Ruth was a member of the Bellefonte Moose Lodge #206, and The Red Lion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1446. She leaves behind her two daughters, Betty Jo Herbst and companion, Dayne Hake, of Red Lion, and Mary E. Shaull, and husband, Todd, of Felton. She leaves behind her five grandchildren, Toni, Casey, Zach, Jayme, and Jasmine and her two great grandchildren, Aiden and Edwon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her five siblings: Elmer Conaway, Alberta Emel, Ida Wilt, Maryann Force and Edward Conaway. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Graveside Service of Honor and Praise will be on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Stonepile UM Church Cemetery with Rev. Patricia Bream officiating.
