Obituary

Ruth N. (Witmer) Folkenroth, of York, went home to rest in her heavenly Father's arms on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the age of 94. She was the wife of the late Bernard P. Folkenroth, who entered into rest in 1972. She was born in York on July 5, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John Issac and Clara (Swartz) Witmer. Ruth was a waitress and hostess at Lions Pride Restaurant in Red Lion and The Roadhouse Restaurant in East York. She was a lifetime member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church. Ruth loved gardening, playing scrabble and putting puzzles together, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones. Ruth leaves behind her three daughters, Kathy M. Smith and husband, Denny, of Dover, Nancy Folkenroth of Chicago, and Joanne Folkenroth of York. She also was a grandmother to eight grandchildren, Peter Hepner, Stephany Hepner (Mike), Steven Folkenroth, Kayla Wagner (Chad), Les Kleiman, Paul Kleiman, John Kleiman and Toni Kline (Brendon), as well as five great grandchildren, Kaydee, Brody, Laynee, Austin and Blake. Ruth was also a step grandmother to Alicia Lacey (Dustin). She leaves behind her two siblings, Norma Folkenroth, of York and Glenn Witmer, of Allentown. Ruth was preceded in death by her three children, Linda Hepner, Sam Folkenroth and David Folkenroth as well as her step grandson, Dayne Riddle. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ken Witmer, Marlin Witmer, Dorcas Bott, Mary Spang and Martha Leibert. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc. 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA 17356. Visitation with family and friends will be from 10 to 11AM on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd, York, PA 17402. A Memorial Service to Honor and Praise Ruth's life will begin at 11AM. A luncheon will take place after the service at the church. A time to share memories with the family will follow the service during the luncheon in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. As recommended, masks and social distancing will be observed. Contributions in Ruth's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 295 Interstate Dr, Suite 100. Harrisburg, PA 17110.
