Shirley A. (Shive) Markle, of Brogue, lay in her bed, with Jesus watching over her, and family by her side, on Christmas Day, at 3:45 am, when she closed her eyes and went to her eternal home. She was the loving wife to Roger K. Markle to whom she married on June 30, 1956, celebrating 66 wonderful years together. She was born in Codorus Township on June 1, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Gertie (Stengle) Shive. Shirley graduated from Susquehannock High School, Class of 1956. She worked at several places throughout her life, but her last employment was in food preparation at the former Burger King, that was located in Spry, from where she retired. During her time there she got to know many new friends, who frequented the restaurant. She is remembered as being a very good person and a "Gem", to her husband. She was a good cook and she loved taking care of her family and spending time with them. Besides her husband Roger, she leaves to cherish her memory, three of her five children, Cindy Anderson of Felton, Robert K. Markle and his wife Shirley of Orbisonia, PA and Ronald K. Markle of Brogue. She was the loving grandmother of four granddaughters, Kristi Paczkoskie and her husband Walter of Seven Valleys, Tiffany Larkie of Felton, Stephanie Robson of Red Lion and Adriane Markle of Orbisonia, PA., and the great grandmother of five great grandsons, Marcus Larkie, Mason Larkie, Walter Paczkoskie, Chase Paczkoskie and Jaydon Taylor. Shirley was preceded in death by two children, Sueann Markle and Roger K. Markle, II. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. All services will be private, and burial will take place at Salem Union Cemetery in Jacobus, at the convenience of the family.
