Obituary

Stanley L. Markey, of Red Lion, entered into rest after a brief stay at Kadima Rehabilitation & Nursing at Pottstown on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the age of 93.

He was born in York on September 2, 1930 to the late Melvin D. Sr., and Marie E. (Raffensberger) Markey. Stanley was the owner/operator of Markey Electric, a local commercial electrical contractor and later, owned and operated Stan's Construction in Adams County. In his earlier years, he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Potter County where he hunted bear, small game and fished. He loved snowmobiling, trail bike riding, and most recently, appreciated mornings where he was able to try a new local breakfast spot. He was a member of New Fairview Church.

Stanley leaves his son, Michael W. Markey of Hanover and daughter, Sharon E. Markey of Texas. He leaves his granddaughters, Jazmin Markey of Oklahoma, Jordynn Markey of Hanover, Kayley Sorrels of Texas, Brittany Blevins of Texas, and Madison Blevins, as well as his grandson, James Markey of Hanover. He is survived by his brother, Clair Markey and wife, Carlene of York and sister, Rozella Dietz of York. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Arlene Markey, Pauline Larkin, his brothers, Richard Markey, Kenneth Markey, Ralph Markey, and Melvin Markey, Jr. He will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at New Fairview Church at the convenience of the family. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to New Fairview Church, 1873 New Fairview Church, 1873 New Fairview Church, York, PA 17403.
