Obituary

Thelma A. (Gemmill) Frey, formerly of Red Lion, entered into eternal rest after a brief illness on Mon. Oct. 21, at 5:01 a.m. at Autumn House East at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Denton W. Frey who entered into rest on March 11, 2002. Mrs. Frey was born in Lower Windsor Twp. on May 18, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Roy M. and Addie R. (Snyder) Gemmill. Thelma worked in various cigar companies in Red Lion and then worked at the Red Lion Area School District in the cafeteria, retiring after 26 years of service. She was a long time and very active member of the former Shenberger's Chapel United Methodist Church in New Bridgeville, where she and her late husband donated many hours as church custodians and caretakers of the grounds. She served on the pastor parish committee, a trustee, parsonage trustee for the charge, Sunday School teacher and served on the hospitality committee. Thelma received much spiritual comfort from all of her many friends at SonLight Chapel Church in Brogue. She was a member of the New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company #39 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter, Carolee L. Ehrhart of York and her husband Carroll; two grandchildren, Christian C. Ehrhart and his wife Nicole, and Carrie E. Smeltzer and her husband John, all of York; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Grant and Piper Ehrhart, and Kathryn and Natalie Smeltzer; two sisters, Ferne Gipe of York and E. Grace Ruby of Red Lion; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Denton Frey on June 27, 1962 and by seven of her siblings. There will be no viewing. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, will be assisting the family with the arrangements. A Service of Honor and Praise for Thelma will be on Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to meet at the graveside, followed by a time to share memories. The Rev. David D. Tietje, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be on St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to SonLight Chapel Church, 10025 Chapel Church Road, Red Lion, PA 17356; or to New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company #39, 2870 Furnace Road, Red Lion, PA 17356. Thelma was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved preparing meals for her family and for the church and fire company. She would always be there to help others who were in need of something. She loved gardening and traveling to Florida with her husband when they were able to visit with family. A very special thank you is spoken to the staff of Autumn House East, Heartland Hospice and to Sonia Millan for their gentle loving care and support shown to our family during the recent illness and loss of our loved one.
