Obituary

AIRVILLE W. Donald Grove, 87, entered into rest after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at 11 p.m. at York Hospital at. He was the husband of Yetta (Seitz) Grove, who entered into rest September 10, 1994. He was born in Airville on October 8, 1924, and was the son of the late Horace M. and A. Annetta (Reinecke) Grove. Mr. Grove was the Chief Maintenance Mechanic at Keener Kitchens in Red Lion since 1971 and was still employed with them and was a former Dairy Farmer. He was a past president/ secretary of the Airville Volunteer Fire Co., former member of the Red Lion Area School Authority; a member and past president of York County Conservation Society, Treasurer of the South Eastern PA Tractor Pullers, and a graduate of Lower Chanceford HS class of 1943. He was also past state secretary of PA Young Farmers Assoc., former leader of both the Boy Scouts and Explorer, and caretaker of both the Airville and McKendree UM Cemetery for many years. Donald was a very active and a dedicated longtime member of McKendree UM Church where he taught Sunday School. He is survived by one son, William D. Grove and wife, Melody of Airville; one daughter, Beth A. Wittenbrader and husband, Robert of Lake Ariel, PA; one granddaughter, Rachel M. Grove Rohrbaugh and husband, Max Rohrbaugh; one sister, Lois A. Manifold of Airville; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; one sister-in-law, Marie Seitz of Red Lion; one brother-in-law, Verlyn McCleary of Red Lion. Viewings will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion., and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at McKendree UM Church, 3708 Delta Rd, Airville, PA 17302. The service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church, with his pastor, David A. Walker officiating. Burial will be at McKendree UM Cemetery. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical or electrical, loved auctions, local history, genealogy and windmills. He was the flagman at the Buck Tractor Pulls. His family farm was over 220 years old and he was very proud to have received the Century Farm Award. He was a friend to everyone who knew him and will be sadly missed by his family and many, many friends.
