Wayne L. Lauer, age 82, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026. Born on December 6, 1943, in Cross Roads, he was the son of the late Lester L. and Ethel E. (Wambaugh) Lauer. He was the loving husband, best friend, and devoted companion of Janice M. (Shelley) Lauer, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Wayne was a 1962 graduate of Kennard-Dale High School. He went on to complete his tool-and-die apprenticeship and began a career that reflected his remarkable skill, precision, and strong work ethic. He worked as a tool-and-die maker for Red Lion Industries and later AMP until his retirement. Never one to sit still, Wayne continued doing the work he enjoyed with Doucette Industries during his retirement years.
Wayne was known for crafting shotgun barrels for competitive shoots and was always eager to participate in a block shoot competition. He found great satisfaction in working with his hands, whether creating something new or restoring his beloved classic GTO. One of his favorite sayings was, “Nothing runs like a mean old goat.” Some of his happiest moments were spent relaxing at home in his easy chair with his faithful cat curled up on his lap. Above all else, Wayne treasured the time he spent with his family. He took great pride in their accomplishments and cherished every opportunity to be together, creating memories that will be held close for years to come.
In addition to his wife, Janice, Wayne is survived by his sons, Gregory W. Lauer and his wife, Michele, and Brian S. Lauer and his wife, Bonnie; his grandchildren, Tanner Lauer and his wife, Meghan, Levi Lauer and his wife, Chelsea, Logan Lauer and his wife, Peyton, Austin Lauer, Dalton Lauer and his wife, Valerie, Briar Lauer and his companion, Leah Crist, and Paige Lauer and her fiancé, Brandt Mellot; his great-grandchildren, Jack, Willow, Eli, Stella, Hazel, Maci, Maverick, Harper, Liam, and Aurora; his step-granddaughter, Ashley Welage and her husband, David; and his sister, Wanda J. Henise.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 5PM on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 3070 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, with Pastor Garry Light officiating.
