William Thomas "Tom" Stephens, formerly of Brogue, passed from this life to life eternal on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 4:30 am at Rest Have York, at the age of 95. He was the husband of the late Sue F. (Scott) Stephens who passed on June 7, 2006.
Tom was born in Delta on July 21, 1927 and was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Smith) Stephens. He worked as a carpenter for many years with the Carpenters Union and then went to work at Kinsley Construction, retiring in 1989, after 25 years of service. He was a long-time member of the Chanceford Presbyterian Church in Airville, the Red Lion Elks where he served two times as the Exalted Ruler, and the Red Lion American Legion Post #543. He enjoyed carving wood ducks, bird watching, and he loved his Boston Terriers. Tom was also a United States Army Veteran, earning the WWII Victory Medal, he served as military police while in the service.
He and Sue had three children: Lee Scott Stephens and his wife Cathy of Parkville, MD, Nina Lutz and her husband David of Red Lion and he was preceded in death by his son, William Gregory Stephens in April of 1995. Tom was the grandfather of seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. He was one of five children, Sara Manifold, Anna Thompson, H. Steve Stephens and Gladys Stabley, all of whom preceded him in death.
Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. All services will be private and at the convenience to the family. Burial will be in Chanceford Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date. His pastor, Rev. Beth E. Appel will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Tom may be offered to: Wellspan York Health Foundation, Cancer Patient Help Fund, 2500 S. George St., York, PA 17403.
