Kenneth W. Smith, Sr., formerly of Windsor, entered into rest at his daughter’s residence in New Bridgeville on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the age of 85. He was the husband of the late Mildred J. (Haynes) Smith who died on September 4, 2018.
Born in York on January 31, 1938, Ken was the son of the late John Jeremiah and Martha Dora (Stough) Smith. He graduated from Dallastown, class of 1956 and was a proud United States Army Veteran. Ken embraced a life enriched by the great outdoors, finding solace in hunting, fishing, camping and the artistry of leathercraft. He enjoyed the countless moments he spent with his family and would tell you that the proudest moment he ever had was the birth of his own children. Ken loved his family. He was a member of Loganville Fire Company and was an active & lifelong member for over 50+ years with Laurel Fire Company #1 in Windsor where he proudly held every position. Ken retired as a mechanic after many years of service with various local businesses, most recently being with Red Lion Bus Company. He attended Pleasant Grove East End Church.
Ken leaves his son, Kenneth W. Smith, Jr., of Windsor and his daughters, Sonja L. Keener (Michael) of Windsor and Bonnie L. Scott (James) of New Bridgeville. He will be missed by his grandchildren: Jessica L. Meyers (Eric) of Felton, Amanda M. Smith (Jessica) of Windsor, Scott A. Smith (Tammy) of Red Lion, Summer L. Scott of Red Lion, Jasmine L. Wertz (Phil) of Red Lion, Robert W. Smith of Windsor, Sebastian C. Smith of Windsor, Stone K. Smith of Wrightsville, CJ Scott (Ali) of Wrightsville and Michael D. Keener., Jr. of Windsor. He also will be missed by his great-grandchildren: Hayden L. Meyers of Brogue, Scott A. Costin of North Carolina, Jaysin R. Haugh of Delta, Zachary M. Smith of Hellam, Jade M. Moore of New Bridgeville, Hunter J. Scott of New Bridgeville, Axel J. Scott of Wrightsville and Harper J. Wertz of Red Lion. He leaves his siblings, Vivian Snyder of York, Joyce Yingling of York and Raymond Smith (Sheila) of Delta. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua M. Smith on October 5, 2005 and his great-grandson, James M. Scott on January 4, 2011.
A viewing and time to visit with Ken’s family will take place at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 am with Rev. Terry Robinson and Pastor Laura Holtzapple of Pleasant Grove East End Church officiating. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military rites offered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
