Obituary

Phyllis L. (Chronister) Haar, formerly of Hanover, went to her eternal home on Saturday afternoon, September 9, 2023 from Victorian Villa in Dallastown at the age of 94. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Haar, Jr. who entered into rest on February 3, 2015.

She was born in New Oxford on May 23, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Clarence William and Lillian Isabelle (Chronister) Noel. A talented cook and baker, Phyllis spent her time at home as a housewife and mother, raising her daughters, tending to her garden, reading and making sure her girls & friends had freshly baked cookies when they arrived home from school. Phyl and Charlie enjoyed dining out on the weekends at the former Victory Restaurant in Hanover and the Papertown Inn in Spring Grove. She especially loved attending the sporting events of her grandchildren as they were growing up. Prior to her move to Dallastown, Phyllis was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. She was a member of Springvale Church for the last 5 years. During her time at Victorian Villa, she cherished the company of her friends and the activities the staff provided. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Victorian Villa for the care they provided to Phyllis for the last 5 years as well as Grane Hospice for making Phyllis’s end of life care as peaceful as possible.

Phyllis leaves her daughters, Lori K. Krouse and husband, Randy of Red Lion and Sherry A. Wright and husband, David, of Rockford, Il. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jeffrey Wright and wife, Heather of North Carolina, Kristin Mahalik and husband, Jon of Elmhurst, Il., Brian Wright and wife, Maggie of Chicago, Il., Derek Wright and wife, Laura of Chicago, Il, Lindsey Troyanoski and husband, Michael of Glen Mills and Adam Krouse and wife, Jennifer of Lancaster. She will be missed by her great grandchildren, Fiona and Vivian Wright of Chicago, Il., Gwen and Abby Mahalik of Elmhurst, Il., Michelle Wright of North Carolina and Addison Troyanoski of Glen Mills. Phyllis leaves her stepbrother, Barry Noel and wife, Christine of Mount Wolf.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Phyllis’s memory be made to Victorian Villa, 621 E. Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313 or to Springvale Church, 265 Circle Drive, Red Lion, PA 17356.
