Phyllis I. (Wilson) Smeltzer, of Red Lion, went to her eternal home on the morning of November 30, 2023 at the age of 95.
Phyllis was born in Red Lion on June 16, 1928 to the late Charles “Chick” A. and Maybelle (Jamison) Wilson. She graduated from Red Lion High School and worked for Guy Hobbs Furniture in Red Lion where she stained cabinetry as well as Dentsply International where she was employed as a tooth finisher. Phyllis was a devoted individual, serving as the den mother for Cub Scout Troop 29, leaving a lasting impact on many young scouts. Phyllis also volunteered her time with Salvation Army, teaching ceramics. She cherished her trips to the river and loved to shop. She had a fondness for lighthouses and especially enjoyed visiting Maine. Phyllis was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
She leaves her son, Kerry D. Smeltzer and wife, Delores of Red Lion as well as her granddaughters, Joni M. Smeltzer of Red Lion, Michelle Kennedy and husband, Gene of Lebanon, Angela Burks and husband, Jeffrey of Red Lion, as well as her grandsons, James H. Smeltzer and wife, Vanessa of South Hampton, VA, and Justin Frey and wife, Cheryl of Red Lion. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Kevin Kennedy, Bryce Tyson, Shawn Smeltzer Cadence Smeltzer, Abigail Smeltzer and Benton Smeltzer She was preceded in death by her son, J. Charles Smeltzer on August 16, 1995 and Sandra P. Frey on March 29, 2021.
A viewing for Phyllis will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Donald Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Stewartstown Cemetery. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home, 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care and compassion that was shown to Phyllis and her family during this time.
